Naughty Monkeys, I-Pods, Geo Tracks...OH MY!!!

Christmas this year rocked as always!
Is there ever a Christmas you look back on and think..WOW that was crappy. I think NOT!! Because Christmas is just always awesome.

So on to what you all really care about....our Christmas Eve PJ's.

Every year my Mom trys to come up with the funniest Christmas PJ's, and every year she one ups herself...one of the women's many talents. This year was no exception....

Behold the Grandkids Pj's...
They all got Paul Frank PJ's. Mogee ( Morgan) is peeking around the corner.

The adults Pj's were the following:
We all got PJ bottoms that said "NAUGHTY" and the girl's got Paul Frank shirts with Angel Monkeys on the Front and Devil Monkeys on the back...the boys shirts then said...Looking for a Naughty Monkey. HAHAHA!!!
Nathan, my soon to be a Missionary brother, did not receive these PJ's. He got the Naughty bottoms, but then he designed a shirt that says, "NICE" on it.

On to other news...Paul and I were about to burst into tears when we realized that this was the first Christmas that our oldest, Sierra, did not ask for-nor receive- one toy. (sniff...sniff) She did however, receive some slamming clothes and an I-pod.

Just in case you couldn't tell, she is pretty sure she is cooler than the rest of us! :) And honestly there are days when this is accurate!

Logan's big haul this year was in the Geo Tracks division. He nearly scored an entire town. (some we had before). Every time he opened one he would say, "Mom, another Geo track! I take it to my house..Geo Track go Home Sweet Home?" He is talking so much more now, and is hilarious!

Shamu also became DTL ( Dead to Logan) over the Christmas vacation. His new love is Dodger, a dog meant for Sierra, but we all quickly learned that it was actually Logan's. Sierra got two new Webkins for the trade...

So in summary, we are Naughty Monkeys, Sierra is cooler than everyone, and Logan is the Mayor of Geo Track Town and a Dog Thief.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

The Love of Logan's Life!

Logan has few loves! I mean he loves us and all that, but he has few LOVES. He never had a binkie, or a blankie, or a ba-ba! He never had a snuggie, or a bear-bear, or a puppy. He never liked to sleep with a blanket on him, or any kind of plush...but this has all changed. The catalist has been our fun passes to Sea World. For Logan has fallen in love with...........................................

SHAMU!!!

You would never know it by watching him watch Shamu....

but when we won him some medium size plushes at some of the mid-way games, ( these were the highlight of our trip this time) ... one stole this boys heart....

and he has been inseperable ever sense.
He sleeps with him, rides in the car with him, plays with him, eats with him.
While Logan was battling Strep Thoat last week... and his evil Mother with the meds... Logan offered Shamu up as the sacrafical lamb in his sted. (Shamu was very brave...but unable to fulfill the debt!)
Logan has found a friend, and companion,

and I don't think he could be any happier!

Cabeza de Vaca

Sierra had to do a research Project on an Explorer that impacted Texas.

She pulled, Cabeza de Vaca.

She was to write a paper about him and then decorate a poster to look like him, with a hole cut out for her head and two holes for her arms, I know confusing. The only way to properly explain it is to show you:

Isn't she HOTT!

The reason she looks like some sort of shipwreaked person and not a Spanish Explorer, is because Cabeza de Vaca was a shipwreaked explorer! I know we are SO clever.

P.S. The paper was pretty slamming too!

Twlight! or was it a New Moon, maybe it was an Eclipse!

My friend Gina and I succumbed to the pressure and went to the New Moon Premiere. In our defense we were with a bunch of other mom's, not teenagers, in a rented out movie theater at the Alamo Draft House.

Wait! That does not make it sound better.

Listen, we are NOT Twi-hards! I swear!

Anyway, we went.

We went for the AWESOME company, and frankly it was a night out-without kids and we all need that every now and again...

Needless to say, It was fun! I won a door prize..it included this ornament filled with rocks and sand from the actual La Push, Washington! SHUT IT!!! Gina and I were SUPER EXCITED about it.

and now that I got you all jealous..I'm done!

New Year's Resolution #1

Why is December always so hectic?

Why do I insist upon beginning my entire Christmas Shopping at 12:00 a.m. the Friday after Thanksgiving?

Why do I get a real tree?

Why don't I plan ahead, far ahead... you would think after nearly 11 years of marriage, and 9 3/4 years of parenting...that I would have figured out that if I want to relax, and not fight the crowds, I should start my Christmas shopping in January.....

that being said....

anyone up for some day after Christmas Shopping!?!

Grateful!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love it! I am also a little possessive about it. I get very perturbed when all the Christmas stuff goes up right after Halloween, thus jumping right over my favorite day of the year! Thanksgiving just gets chipped!

I love all things about Thanksgiving. I love the pumpkins, the fall colors, the weather shifting to cool days and cooler nights, the family time, the cooking, the food, the shopping! I love everything about Turkey Day!

I also love how we all take the time to slow down and think about those things that bring joy and thanksgiving into our lives, our homes, and our hearts. SO, I thought on this Eve of TURKEY DAY, and before the joyous chaos that is Thanksgiving hits my home full blown, I would jot down the 5 thing that I will be giving THANKS for this year!

1) My Faith. I am grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and all that it has brought into my life. Meaning, Purpose, Love, Gratitude, Humility etc.

2)My Family. Paul, Sierra and Logan bring me the greatest joy I have ever known. XOXOXO!

3) Extended Family. You are an extension of my own family and you bring me unmeasurable happiness. Seriously some of the most awesome people that I could ever hope to know. I love you all! Can I just say I know how to pick 'um!

4) Friends. Living far away from family has been one of the greatest challenges of my life...and yet it has brought about some of the greatest blessings. We have met many wonderful friends..many that I now count among my family. Paul and I definitely could not have made this journey on our own. We love you!

5) Freedom. I am grateful for those that are fighting over seas to maintain our freedoms. Freedoms that I am beginning to feel many of us at times take for granted. I am grateful for the freedom to say and do and be what I feel is best for me. That is a blessing!

So, there you have it the 5 things that I am most grateful for this Thanksgiving Holiday!

Now go have fun and hopefully I will run into you while shopping Friday! :)

Santa's Worshop aka. Home Depot

My friend, Gina, invited Logan to the Home Depot for one of their crafts for kids events. They have them every 3rd Saturday, and they are totally free, but I thought they were just for kids 5-12 so I never thought of taking Logan. Home Depot supplies the craft, an apron, and this time a great hat to go with their theme.
Santa's Shop at the Home Depot!
Apron, CHECK!! Goggles, CHECK! Elf Hat, CHECK!!
Rescue Puppy, CHECK!!!
READY TO GET MY HAMMERING ON!
Tyson V. Showing off his own finished project! Tyson is one of Logan's friends from church and his Friday playgroup! Tyson and his family are moving on Wednesday!
We will miss you "V" family!!!!!
Friends Busy at work:
Anna A., Clayton Girls, Matthew, Maddy and Lyndon E, Tyson V.

Finished Project! A "Winter" Planter with plant!

Great job Logan the Builder!

It's DONE!!!

After 16 months we have finally finished and shelved the Carpet Incident of 2008.
For those of you who don't remember we had a slight incident with some rugs purchased at a store that dry transferred die onto my carpets. It was pretty awful. Well, after 16 months of persistence we finally got the settlement with the insurance company, and after much debate decided to re-carpet the entire house!
I am IN LOVE! I am so happy to have it done! I am so happy to not walk into my living room and see "red" literally on my carpet!
OH! HAPPY HAPPY DAY!
Before: Old Carpet!
During: the install took 1.5 days so this is the hall with half the house done! What a difference already!

New Carpet completed!

One of the things about installing the new carpet was that we had to move all the furniture out of the house. This gave me the opportunity ( a little stressful) to re-organize the house, and to rearrange some of the furniture.

It has been great to fall in love with our home all over again!

Thanks to Kevin S., Kevin T. And Milton F. for coming over and heaving all of our heavy pieces out to the garage! We appreciate it!

Lipan Apaches of Texas

As part of Sierra's 4th grade curriculum she is learning about Texas history. Starting of course with the Native Americans that lived here! For her first project she was to research, and then create a triorama about some of the facts that she learned. Sierra selected the Lipan Apache Tribe, and decided to do her triorama on their food, and shelter. I think it turned out pretty cute! And she did a kick butt presentation too!
The Food Side! This was our personal favorite side. We loved the acorns Sierra turned into baskets filled with food but, our absolute favorite thing is Paul's Salt Dough Bison that ended up looking like it was going to take a bathroom break on the Texas Plains! Sierra insisted on keeping it!
Shelter Side!
Sierra was so creative with coming up with the idea to put the fire inside the Tepee!
Completed Triorama!
Next Project: The Explorers. This is another blog worthy one for sure! I will post pictures as soon as we get it back. Hopefully in one piece!

Interesting?

Anyone have those days, those weeks, where you just feel uninteresting?

Well, I am having one of those days
one of those weeks
one of those months.

Life here is just....Mundane.

But, let's be honest..in about 2 weeks I will be blogging about how busy everything is and how Un-Mundane and Interesting life is- because in my opinion everything is more interesting when done to Christmas music.

For now I got Nothing!
Zip
Zilch!

I'm just going to have to be okay with being Un-Interesting!

Happy Halloween!

This Halloween was great! Once again I lost my mind and made the kids Halloween Costumes! It wasn't as bad as last year though, and I was able to do them all by myself. That's right! I can now read a pattern! I am so excited! Anyway, here are the pics!
Two cute kids ready to get their load of loot!
Sierra was Elizabeth Cole from American Girl, or a colonial 1700's girl!
Logan decided he wanted to be Batman. He wouldn't wear the shoe covers I made him, but he did wear them later that night trick or treating!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!

HEY ERIN!!!!

Wanna Trade?
Logan dumped out the ENTIRE contents of the media cabinet. As best I could tell he was looking for the "Bella Dancerella" dance mat. It was in the front of the media cabinet. Somewhere between I want the dance mat, and opening the cabinet Logan decided that he needed to use it as a cave. My favorite part was hearing him whining and walking in to discover said mess, with him whining "I want the Dance Mat!" Way to come back to center, buddy!
This looks helpful...laundry in piles. Trust me. It's not. They were already in piles. Sorted. These are a different "sort" of pile.

And, I do not have pictures here of the piles of q-tips and toothpicks I have laying around my house. Sierra is working on a project for school ( more about that later) and Logan has discovered that his hand makes an EXCELLENT front excavator. We are now spending a lot of time dumping things out and then "excavating" them into other piles, none of which are located in their containers of origin.

So, Erin...when you wanna make the trade?

Just a Buck!

You all know me, and you know that I hardly EVER ask for money, or promote other give-aways in hopes of getting something for myself on this blog.

BUT...I am going to break that rule with the following post.

My Parents...(that's right the old people in this picture :) ) are running the New York Marathon on November 1, 2009! I know they are nuts...and I've learned to accept it as an unchanging truth at this point!

Anyway, they are running the NY Marathon as part of TEAM FOX. In other words, they are running to raise awareness and money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. A foundation that gives 95% of what it earns to the research and development for a cure for Parkinson's and other diseases. They are running it in behalf of Dr. Joe Davidson a friend and colleague of my mom's, as well as a member of their Stake- who is currently fighting his own battle with Parkinson's. They are also running for my Dad's friend John and my Great Grandma Van Buren who we also recently found out has Parkinson's.

I know that we currently live in a time of uncertainty. I know that we are all spending a lot of time circling wagons and making sure that we are taking care of our immediate loved ones. But, if we could each donate $1.00 it would make a huge difference, as well as let Joe, John and G'Ma Van Buren know that we can and will help take care of them too!

Below is the write up my Mom did for Joe on her Website about why she runs, and why she runs for Joe! At the bottom is the link for those that would like to donate to my Mom's or Dad's website! Please read it....and if you can please make a donation to their worthy cause. I know it would mean a lot to them and Joe if we could make that "honor roll" list super long!

BTW: I am super proud of you Mom and Dad! LOVE YOU!

Running in Honor of Joseph O. Davidson

"When I think of words to describe Joe the first one that comes to my mind is integrity; others are unwavering faith, friendship, kindness, and gentleness. He is a wonderful father and an incredible husband." ~Kathy Davidson

"Joe Davidson was my mentor and will always be my friend. He is an intellectual giant, a scholar, and a gentleman. He is a legend at the Language and Culture Center at University of Houston, where he served as director for twenty-three years. From the early onset of Parkinson’s, I saw him quietly and courageously continue to work with grace and dignity and great purpose. He is my hero."
~ Joy S.Tesh, Director of the Language and Culture Center, University of Houston

"Dr. Davidson was more than just my Spanish teacher. He taught me how to be a better person."
~ Nathan Scovill

Dear Friends,

Terry and I are excited to run the New York City Marathon to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation to cure Parkinson’s disease. On November 1, 2009, I will put on my shoes and run 26.2 miles in honor of Dr. Joseph O. Davidson. Why do I run? And why the Michael J. Fox Foundation?

This has been a challenging year for most of the people I know and love. When faced with problems as enormous as disease or widespread economic hardship, it can be difficult to feel hopeful, or to believe that there is anything one person can do to turn the tide. But what I KNOW, what I have learned from my experience is this: It is the small, loving, positive things we do that become the strength and momentum that does turn the tide, that does create positive outcomes, that does change the world.

Two years ago, I didn’t run—ever. Marathoning is a new sport for me. It has taught me so much about life. You can’t run a marathon on marathon day if you don’t practice for weeks and weeks in advance. Marathons aren’t about marathon day. Marathons are about the small, seemingly inconsequential daily choices you make while you train. Marathon victories (for us mortals who just aim to finish) begin at four in the morning on a regular Saturday when it’s 88 degrees and humid outside. It’s won when you get out of bed and do your long run anyway. According to Marathoners, there are two halves to a marathon--the first twenty miles and the last six. What I’ve learned is that the first twenty miles on Marathon day happen because you train well for the previous 20 weeks. Success in the first twenty miles of a marathon is earned during those "private," day-to-day victories.

That’s why marathoners say that you run the first twenty miles with your body and the last six miles with your heart. They are right. At some point after running the first twenty miles, your body is finished and you hit "the wall." That’s why the second half of the marathon is the "heart half." You have to run it with your heart because your body is finished. It also explains why crowd support makes such a huge difference on Marathon day. Being cheered on gives you strength you didn’t know you had and carries you over the tough spots. There is nothing quite like having someone in the crowd read the name on your running bib and cheer just for you, "Come on, Lori. You can do it." I would not have finished the Houston Marathon without the love, cheers and encouragement of my friends and family. Cheers literally help runners reach beyond the pain and find their heart.

I told my high school best friend, Nikki, that she needed to come see the Boston Marathon. I was there to watch another best friend, Veronique, run. Nikki told me running was "not a spectator sport." She came anyway. During our adventure, Nikki found herself sitting at the bottom of "Heartbreak Hill." It is the third of three long, steep hills that just happen to occur in the "heart half" of the Boston marathon. Folks are already tired and bleeding when they reach the bottom of Heartbreak Hill. They are spent. You can see the pain on their faces. A former runner was standing next to Nikki trying to cheer runners on. He couldn’t find the right words to say. Nothing he shouted seemed to help. Then he shouted, "Heartbreak Hill? Heartbreak Hill? You OWN this hill! You OWN this hill!" Runners heard him. They smiled. They gathered their strength. They picked up their pace. They found their wings and ran up that hill. Nikki had to fight back tears as she told her husband the story.

Joe Davidson is an amazing man (read below for more details ). He is also an extremely private man. Joe Davidson has faced with dignity and courage his private, daily battle with Parkinson’s disease. He has done this for years now. I feel immensely honored that Joe has allowed me the privilege to run for him and to gather a crowd to cheer him on during what must be the "heart half" of his race. I told Nikki’s story to Joe the same day I asked him for a picture to put on my Michael J. Fox Foundation webpage. Joe smiled and said, "What we really need is a picture of me at the bottom of Heartbreak Hill."

That is why I am running the NYC Marathon for the Michael J. Fox Foundation to cure Parkinson’s disease. That is why I am sending this letter. We need your help. Your support, your cheers, your messages, your love, your encouragement and your contribution WILL cheer Joe on in his fight to beat Parkinson’s disease. Your willingness to get involved in a little way WILL make a big difference. Your response is just what is needed for researchers to be able to pick up the pace, to find a cure, to develop wings to help Joe up this long and difficult hill. I believe the Michael J. Fox Foundation, more than any other organization, is uniquely and strongly positioned to find the cure for Parkinson’s disease. There is hope. The hope is us. Run with me.

JOE, YOU OWN THIS HILL!

Thank you friends!
Lori Scovill

Blue Hat, Green Hat...

Logan and I have a favorite book that we read at bedtime. It is by Sandra Boynton and it is called:

" Blue Hat, Green Hat" Seriously delightful!
Logan has heard it so many times that he has begun reading it to me. Although the colors don't always match, the intensity and joy is there...and that is all is really needed anyway, right!?!
Anyway, I digress! Last night as Logan got to the following page,

he read it, " green pant, yellow pant, blue pant......Mom? They pooped!"

Me: what?

Logan: They pooped mom!

Me: They Pooped? Where do you see their poops?

Logan: Here! And then he proceeded to point to all the "poops" aka: bulges in between their legs!

SO FUNNY! But, all this really is, is a testiment to Logan's own constipation issues. Let's be honest most poops are not in the shape of softballs!

We love you Choochie!

Snuggling Ostlers!

This is what I walked in on this afternoon!Ah! Simple Pleasures!

Logan's Favorite New Phrase.

Logan has been very blog worthy of late.

You see, Logan is speaking more, and more importantly, he is speaking to other people. To illustrate this point I give you the following conversation Paul had with Logan's Nursery leader yesterday after church!

Logan's Nursery Teacher: Logan spoke to us today!

Paul: Really?

Logan's Nursery Leader: Yes! Three words. We are so excited!

As a side note, Logan has been in this nursery for the last year. He has never before spoken to them. He speaks at home, but never at nursery, and hardly at all if we are not at home. He is known at nursery as the "silent sufferer" and frankly the name fits!
However, after being in several playgroups now, and going to different homes and being around other talking kids and their mom's, I think he is now finally learning that talking has it's benefits...like the following phrase..his new favorite.

"IT'S NOT FAIR, MOM!"

That's right! I can only blame Sierra for this nugget of wisdom that she has imparted to her brother. and everything is NOT FAIR.

His shirt is up his back in his car seat- NOT FAIR
His movie won't come on- NOT FAIR
He has to go to bed- NOT FAIR
He can't put on his shoes- NOT FAIR
He trips- NOT FAIR
His food is hot- NOT FAIR

as you can see there are some context issues but for the most part he has it down pat!

Here's to hoping that he can articulate many more of the unfair things that happen in his life!

Our "WHAT THE?" Moment of the Day!

Paul was making himself some eggs for breakfast this morning...when he got the most horrified/startled/ surprised/confused look on his face...

1 egg, 2 yolks

which leaves the following Question:

Can chickens have twins?

How Many Licks?

My favorite candy is Tootsie Roll Pops. I LOVE them. I steal them from my children's Trick or Treat Candy. I steal them from my children's party bags from Birthday Parties.

Essentially, I am a thief of Tootsie Roll Pops. You have one and I will beg, borrow, or steal to get it. (I'm not proud, but it's the truth. )

BUT... the other day I found something -something so MONUMENTAL that it has changed my life!!!!

They now have Tootsie Roll Pop Drops!

WHAT!?!?!

I know, it's a Tootsie Roll Pop with out the STICK!!!

Why? oh! Why? did it take you so long Mr. Owl to come up with this treat of AMAZING!

No worries though Mr. Owl. We're still cool! I have forgiven you.
For you have provided me with a sweet treat that is only 60 calories for 4. That's right 4! And for me that is more than enough!

And to those of you on Mindy's 12 week game of torture...I mean 12 weeks to a better you....you're welcome!
and sense I am nice like that, H.E.B. has them on sale for $.99 a bag! And it's resealable!

So, Go! What are you waiting for?

Goodbye First Love!

Last night I opened my computer to check my email ( and the latest gossip on the Kanye West, Taylor Swift fiasco) to see that Patrick Swayze had past away from Pancreatic Cancer. I was stunned. I did an audible {gasp}. It took me a moment to compose myself.

You see, Patrick Swayze is my first, and only, Hollywood crush.

I saw Dirty Dancing when I was 10 and I was IN LOVE!!! My Grandpa Coombs obviously noticed after the 30th time I watched it at his house and made me a copy of it....

I made all my friends watch it with me....

My friend Kelly and I, paused the movie on his bum- when he got out of bed and you got a brief glimpse of it. We watched that part over and over, until we paused it just right....that was a GREAT MOMENT!!! :)
I watched that movie until it wasn't watchable anymore...

I squealed in Circuit City when I found it 15 years later, with my 6 year old daughter next to me, in the $5 bin. I bought it, this time on DVD!

I watched it and fell in love all over again.
I watched him in Ghost, and wanted him to teach me how to work a pottery wheel.
I watched him in "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar," and loved him because he could work a evening gown with some amazing pectoral muscles.

And I was sad when I heard the news that he had cancer...
I have been telling myself that this day would come.. so I'm not devastated.... but I am sad...my first love has gone to a better place...

So, Thanks Patrick Swazye for some great child hood memories...thanks for your dancing... and thanks for letting me crush on you!

I will miss you!

"Mo-Skeeteer" Bites

This weekend we went to Houston....where they have infinitely more mosquitos than we do in Austin. Thanks BATS!!! I am grateful for that! So is Sierra!

You see, Sierra is unfortunately, a very tasty treat for the 'skeeteers. She gets bit every time, AND every time she gets bit there is a 3 day itchy whine that follows...it's what I would call..."GOOD TIMES!"

This weekend, as you can tell, was no exception. Sierra arrived in Houston and literally 2 hours later the bites were discovered and the whining began.... we did everything we could to help her with the itch...many products were used. Moderate success was achieved.

Let's Fast Forward...

Last night we rolled in around 11:30 at night. The kids had been asleep. They get out of the car...Sierra disappears. I find her in my bathroom rubbing cream on her bites...great! I go to the bathroom, I walk out and something doesn't seem right.... I ask Sierra, "what are you rubbing on your bites?" She replies, " anti-itch cream" and proceeds to point to some VAGISIL she dug out of some drawer.... NICE!!!

I love having to explain to my 9 year old the difference between anti-tich cream, and "anti-itch cream"

Carpal Tunnel

I have just finished filling out, or signing 6 papers for Sierra's school. I have written 2 checks. I am now going to ice my right hand. It hurts!

Let it Snow?

I took Sierra to school on Friday...

after dropping her off, I took the rare
opportunity to crank up the volume and jam to some music...

not expecting to find Michael Buble singing....

"LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW"

Apprently 95.5 here in Austin has decided to play CHRISTMAS music in the morning starting NOW!

Yeah! Cause that's what I need 3 days from the HOTTEST summer on record EVER in AUSTIN!!

A reminder of what is yet to come for 3 more months... COOLER WEATHER!

BAHH HUM BUG!

1st Day of School!

Sierra started 4th grade on Tuesday!

That's pretty awesome.

She was super excited and a little nervous to start school this year. We are attending a new school...and no we haven't moved.

It's a long story that I am not getting into, but suffice it to say that after meeting the teacher, seeing the 1st day and reading the behavior contract I signed last night... I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! I think that this Elementary school is going to be exactly what my child needs.
I love when I am taught much needed lessons ike... trust the Lord.

So on to the good stuff...the pictures!

Looking all cute in her Downeast Outfit from Utah..thanks Aunt Elyse!
(I hope Savannah looked just as cute Brooke!)

Let's talk about "The Haircut"....Sierra came to me on Monday and informed me that she DID want a haircut. We have been having this discussion for weeks. When we got to the salon, I asked Sierra what she wanted..all she said was," I want a bob!" I said, " But, then you can't pull your hair back, let's get a bob but keep it longer..." Okay! Great! Sierra gets called back, she climbs in the seat, the lady asks her what she wants, and without hesitation Sierra says....." I WANT BANGS!"

WHAT!!!

This was not what we discussed! The discussion begins again ..and I figured what the hey..this women is a professional, she won't let my child walk out of here deformed, let Sierra have a little independance.
I also think it turned out pretty cute, and I thought Sierra had made a great choice for herself- all by herself...My little independant fashionista....

Later that night Sierra is watching the Disney Channel and Selena Gomez pops on screen with a short, cute bob with bangs...and Sierra says..."THATS why I wanted bangs!"(Selena's haircut is shorter than this now...but the bangs are right)

SERIOUSLY! IT STARTS!!!

But, it could be worse...she could want to be dressing like Lyndsey Lohan...or {gasp} Lady Gaga!

Ostler Family Adventure: G&G Coombs Edition

Part of this trip to Utah was spent in Hurricane, Ut with my Grandparents- the Coomb's. OH! How I love them...I remember vacations visiting them when I was a little girl.

I remember fishing at Strawberry Reservoir, catching Rainbow trout and coming home and frying them up. I remember trips to Salem Park and using leaves as boats and racing them down the stream to the pond with Cousin "Matt-a-hue". I remember Swimming at the Payson Swimming Pool and jumping off the high dive with Grandpa Coombs cheering us on. I remember that was the only time in my life his 6ft 7in frame looked small to me. I remember him letting me drive his tractor out in the back lawn- all by myself. I remember their red room and the water bed we would sleep on. I remember trips to Polar Queen for Hamburgers and they tasted so good! I remember the smell of Grandpa's waffles in the morning, served with butter and Grandma's homemade Raspberry Jam...YUMMO!! But, most important I remember how much my Grandma and Grandpa Coombs smiled when we walked in the door, and how much they LOVED ME!! One of my favorite things is getting my faced rubbed with day-old stubble, and the smell of coffee. Both of these things come from Grandpa Coombs. I loved climbing into his big, strong lap while he had his morning cup of coffee and he would rub his unshaven face on mine, and I would laugh and he would laugh! OH! THAT LAUGH!! Deep routed in the gut laughter- another one of my favorite things!
I am so happy that I was able to take my kids to visit the Coomb's. They had the same smile on their face when they saw my kids.. that look of pure love and joy! I am so glad that we were able to spend time with them and create memories for my kids to share with them as well.
Here are the highlights!

One of our favorite days was when we went with Grandpa to St. George and went to the St. George Temple Visitor's Center. We also went to Brigham Young's Winter home. We had such a great time that day! It was perfect!

WE LOVE OUR GRANDPA AND GRANDMA COOMBS!

Me, the kids and The Coomb's at Zion's National Park. A must see when you are only a 30 minute drive away!

Grandpa making his famous WAFFLES!!!! Sierra helped Grandpa make breakfast every morning. He taught her how to make steamed eggs, sausage and had her help him with the waffles...she had such a fun time and they made such a great breakfasts!
Grandpa suggested we go to the Dinosaur Museum in St. George while we were visiting and the kids had a blast "digging" for fossils!

At the Museum we picked up these dinosaurs kits, where the "dinosaur" was encased in plaster and you had to excavate them out...Logan loved it and he sat at the kitchen table working on his dinosaur for the longest time.. he was VERY proud when we finally got it out!
WE LOVE YOU GUYS!
Can't wait to see you again soon!
